As you know, these items protect workers who are exposed to certain harmful substances or germs during their workday. At Deco&Lemon, we understand their importance, which is why we also offer dust masks that we'll show you how to use. Don't miss our new post!

What is the function of dust masks?

As its name suggests, this item protects against respirable dust . However, filtering facepiece respirators also protect against smoke and water mist (aerosols), although they are not effective against vapor and gas. They obviously cover the mouth and nose area and are mandatory in work environments where the aforementioned conditions are exceeded, which can be harmful to health. The classification system consists of three FFP classes, a term that refers to a "filtering facepiece." In this regard, Deco&Lemon models are classified as FFP2 ; that is, they protect against the type and type of harmful fluids of dust, smoke, and aerosols.

When should you use an FFP2 class dust mask?

These types of filtering facepiece respirators are mandatory in work environments where harmful and mutagenic particles may be present in the air . Designs in this category must filter particles down to 0.6 microns in size and can be used in spaces where the maximum allowable concentration (MAK) does not exceed ten times the MAK. As a general rule, these dust masks are commonly used in the metalworking and mining industries . Workers in these sectors are constantly exposed to aerosols, mist, and smoke, agents that negatively affect the respiratory system.

How to properly adjust an FFP dust mask

To achieve maximum effectiveness with these products, a good seal between the edges and the face is crucial. Otherwise, their effectiveness will be compromised, as contaminated air can leak through any opening. Therefore, we recommend considering the following:
  • First, secure the top band of the dust mask over the crown of your head and make sure it is not twisted.
  • Properly adjust the nose clip to the shape of your nose and cheeks, allowing the mask to seal perfectly to the area.
  • When using foldable masks, the panels should not be fully unfolded.
  • The lower band of these items must be positioned at the nape of the neck.
We hope you found our information helpful. As you can see, dust masks are essential for performing our work properly and protecting our health. Get yours at Deco&Lemon!
